(Scarborough, Tobago – December 15th, 2017): On December 15th 2012, forty-three patients were transferred, without incident, from the Scarborough Regional Hospital (SRH), Fort Street, Scarborough to the Scarborough General Hospital (SGH), Signal Hill – six from the Pediatric Ward, seven from the Surgical Ward, nine from the Medical Ward and ten mothers and mothers to be and eleven babies from the Maternity Ward.
Fast forward to 2017! Five years later, the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) family, stakeholders and friends, gathered at the SGH Conference Room to commemorate the event with a Thanksgiving Service on Thursday 14th December, 2017.
TRHA Deputy Chairman, Ms. Ingrid Melville, expressed her gratitude to the former Secretary of Health and Social Services, the Board of Directors at the time, staff and the general public for making the initial transition smooth and for continuing to maintain a high level of professionalism at the facility. “The transition to this facility meant that the TRHA could offer other Secondary Care services such as MRI and CT Scan services to the people; state of the art services at a state of the art facility” stated Ms. Melville.
Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, Councillor Dr. Agatha Carrington, emphasized the importance of providing first class service to patients and clients at the hospital. “A first class facility deserves first class services and first class customer service from all categories of staff, from Doctors and Nurses to Wards maids and Pharmacists. I can say without a doubt that the service provided on all levels are second to none in the country and I encourage us all to ensure that the Scarborough General Hospital continues to make its mark in healthcare service in Trinidad and Tobago.”
Dr. Carrington also stressed the need for persons to take care of themselves so that they do not end up at a Secondary Care facility, such as the SGH. She underscored that the Primary Care Services in Tobago will continue to be strengthened to facilitate this.
