There are three steps to making a blood donation at the Scarborough General Hospital, Signal Hill. Please be reminded to eat a good meal, and drink plenty of fluids before your blood donation and walk with some form of identification.
|1||Screening: You will be required to fill out a consent form and a nurse will ask you a series of questions. We will also take your blood pressure, weight and blood count.|
|2||Actual Blood Donation: You will be asked to lie down on a reclining chair.|
A nurse will disinfect your arm at the inner elbow and insert a cannula.
Blood donation only takes 3 – 5 mins.
|3||Recovery Time: After donating, you will be given a drink of vita malt and you will be asked to sit and rest for five minutes. If you feel faint, lightheaded or nauseous, please inform the nurse.|
It is rare to have any adverse effects from donating blood
