(Scarborough, Tobago – December 27th, 2017): Aria Thomas was Tobago’s first baby born on Christmas Day at the Scarborough General Hospital (SGH)! Baby Aria made her grand entrance into the world at 6:04 a.m. and weighed 6.3 lbs. when she was delivered by Midwife Vernet Louis and Head Nurse & Midwife, Audrey George.
Her proud mom, twenty-four-year-old Tessa Burgess from Canaan, expressed gratitude to the staff of the SGH Maternity Ward for making her second experience memorable.
“My experience was a bit tough this time compared to my first daughter, my contractions were the worst but the Midwife and Head nurse were fantastic! They did an excellent job in helping me through labour and delivery and definitely made it easier. Thank You,” stated an elated Ms. Burgess.
On hand to bring greetings from the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development and the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the TRHA, Ms. Ingrid Melville.
“Congratulations Tessa on delivering the first Christmas baby at the Scarborough General Hospital for 2017. We wish you all the best and please take care of your precious bundle of joy,” said Ms. Melville.
A hamper was presented to Tessa and baby Aria from the Division and the TRHA, in partnership with Tobago Youth for Change. Director Crystal Celestine and group members Kafala Nurse and Shameka Pope made the joint presentation.
Baby Aria was later joined by three other babies during the day, two females and one male. Bette Surrey from Black Rock delivered the only boy born on Christmas day at 3:50 p.m. He weighed 10.01 lbs. Sandie Young and Allison Alexander both delivered girls at 7:40 p.m. and 8:25 p.m., weighing 8.01 lbs and 8.29 lbs., respectively.
